I get this one a lot.

"Coach, I’m getting stock [or RSUs, ISOs, PIUs, Phantom, etc. etc.] as part of my compensation package.  How do I value this? How do I gauge what the right amount is?"

FYI…that’s Restricted Stock Units, Incentive Stock Options, Profit Interest Units, Phantom Stock (yes, it’s a thing) and several other variations of stock-ish type compensation.

Well, like just about everything everybody ever asks me, this comes down to a number of considerations and what’s important to you.
